Envelope Purses The New Clutches?

This is at least the 10th time I stumble upon an envelope purse these days, and it makes me wander … are they the new clutches?
Its true that its difficult to find “the 9 differences” but clutches are clutches, purses are purses right?
The one below for example would fit almost any party dress just as a trendy clutch (if you shut one of your eyes for the color).
What do you think of the clutches/purses theory?
